Stay protected: Expert tips for creating strong passwords

Plus, download our best practices guide

October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, so we reached out to our network security experts, Dustin Brown and Josh Risch, for their top tips on creating hacker-resistant passwords.

With cyber threats and data breaches on the rise, it's crucial to protect your accounts with strong passwords that can withstand attacks.

Five tips for creating hacker-resistant passwords

  1. Always use 15 characters or more
  2. Create memorable phrases with a mixture of special characters, capital letters and numbers, like "Cats-g0-Wolf!"
  3. Use a free password manager such as LastPass or Bitwarden
  4. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) whenever available.
  5. Be selective with single sign on (SSO). Logging in with Google can share more data than necessary.

Take action: Download the password security best practices guide and start creating secure passwords.

Ashley Hawks, director of the Kenton County Emergency Communications Center, gave a big shout-out to our Public Works' team for repairing and upgrading the road leading to the 911 radio tower in the Devou Park neighborhood.

Originally planned as a contracted project, the Public Services team determined they could complete it more efficiently in-house, saving both time and money.

Their work proved essential during the major storms on Sept. 27, when power to the tower was lost, requiring an emergency gas delivery to keep the generator running. Without the road fix, this critical delivery may not have been possible.

Team member milestones

The Fiscal Court approved two new hires and two promotions in September.

  • Bradley Creech, public services technician II, Kenton County Public Works

The Fiscal Court also took the next step in its development of Kenton County’s newest park, opening bids for an owner’s representative for the project. At 225 acres, the new Kenton County park is the largest of the County’s seven parks and is the former home of Fox Run Golf Course.
