Chronicles: Updating your direct deposit

Kenton County Chronicles Posted on March 20, 2025

Happy March, Kenton County team.

In this month's Chronicles, we cover:

  • How to update your direct deposit information;
  • What to know ahead of our dependent verification review this month; and
  • The newest additions to the Kenton County baby crew.

Need to change your direct deposit information? Here's how

Nobody wants a mishap on pay day, so ensuring your paycheck goes to the right account is essential. Whether you've switched banks, need to update your account details or want to split your pay between multiple accounts, updating your direct deposit information in UKG is a straightforward process.

To avoid any disruptions in your pay, it’s important to make these changes correctly and in a timely manner. Follow this step-by-step guide to seamlessly update your direct deposit information and ensure your earnings are deposited exactly where they should be.

Step one:

After logging into your Kenton County UKG account, click on the three horizontal lines in the top left corner of your homescreen for the drop down menu to appear.

Next, you'll click the fourth icon entitled "My HR."

After clicking "My HR," you'll see three options: HR Actions, Checklists and Forms. The item you want to click is HR Actions.

Step two:

Once you're on the HR Actions page, you'll have four potential options of HR-related filings you can update, such as name change requests.

To update your direct deposit information, you'll want to click the start button on the right-hand side of your screen next to "Change Direct Deposit."

Step three:

This final screen is where you'll input your updated account information, along with valid documentation that shows your new account and routing numbers.

After adding all your information, simply hit submit.

NOTE: If you have an existing active direct deposit account, you MUST put an end date that account before making any changes.

Frequently asked questions

I want to make changes to my direct deposit information before our next paycheck. Is there a deadline for when I must do it?

To ensure your direct deposit updates take effect on time, submit any changes by the Friday before your next Thursday payday.

I don't want to add an account, but I do need to change my existing one. How do I do that?

To modify your existing direct deposit information, follow the steps above, but on step three, rather than adding an account, click on the pencil icon next to your active direct deposit account.

What do I do if I want my paycheck to be split between accounts?

If you have more than one account you'd like to deposit to, such as a savings account, click the "Add" button again to add another account.

There you'll be able to notate how much of your paycheck you'd like to go into that account, whether it's a flat amount or a percentage.

Mark your calendars

From March 24 to April 4, American Fidelity will be onsite to discuss voluntary insurance benefits available to Kenton County employees and conduct a mandatory dependent verification review (DVR).

A DVR ensures that all dependents covered under the Kenton County health plan meet eligibility requirements.

As an employee, this means for each dependent covered through you on the Kenton County plan, you must provide original documentation as listed on the link below of accepted documents proving their eligibility.

Scenario: You are married with one stepchild and one biological child. Your spouse does not receive insurance coverage through their work. What documents should you bring in?

  • For your spouse, you'll need either the first page of your most recent tax return or your government-issued marriage certificate/license, as well as a letter from their employer verifying she is not offered medical coverage.
  • For your stepchild, you will need the first page of your most recent tax return and an original or certified birth certificate listing your current spouse as the child's parent.
  • And finally, for your biological child, you will need the first page of the most recent tax return or an original or certified birth certificate.

Employee Spotlight: Ian Byrne, Kenton County Emergency Communications Center

Ian Byrne

Check out our February Employee Spotlight, where we get to know better Ian Byrne, a communications supervisor at the Kenton County Emergency Communications Center (KCECC).

After his time in the Air Force veteran, Ian found his true calling in 911 dispatch, where he thrives in the fast-paced, unpredictable environment. He's now been part of our team for 10 years.

"I came to dispatch thinking it would be a stepping stone. Turns out, it was exactly where I was supposed to be," Byrne said.

This November, Ian became the second KCECC employee to earn the prestigious Center Manager Certification, a rigorous program covering everything from legal issues in 911 to cybersecurity.

At KCECC, Byrne leads by example. "Ian wears many hats at KCECC, but one of his most impactful roles is serving as a role model for future leaders," said Ashley Hawks, director of KCECC.

Team accomplishments: Recent celebrations from Kenton County

KCAS celebrates successful adoption drive

Chrissy

Kenton County Animal Services hosted an adoption drive Valentine's Day weekend, and it was huge hit. The team at KCAS was able to successfully place all our adoptable cats into new homes. This success wouldn't have been possible without Chrissy Hatfield.

According to Interim Director Taylor Jackson, Chrissy works to understand each cat's personality so that it can be matched with a home where it's most likely to succeed. Her diligence and dedication was on full display throughout the event!
